Quick start
Prerequisites
- A Windows x64 server you can install a service on, reachable from Soterre.
- Entra ID rights to register an application, or someone who has them.
- A Power BI tenant admin willing to allow that application to read the tenant.
- Soterre Enterprise already running.
Steps
Run the installer
PbiAnalyzer_Setup_<version>.exe installs to C:\Program Files\Soterre PBI Analyzer\, registers the PbiAnalyzer.Service Windows service (LocalSystem, auto-start), and opens the firewall for the public API port only.
Details and options: Install the service.
Open the Launcher and confirm the service is running
Start Soterre PBI Analyzer from the Start menu. Mode should read Service and Status Running. If it does not, use Start.
Set the admin password
Click Admin Password…. There is no web setup page — the Admin Console cannot be reached until a password exists here.
Register a Service Principal in Azure
In Entra ID, register an application and create a client secret. Note the Tenant ID, Client ID and Client secret — the secret is shown once.
Then, in the Power BI admin portal, enable service principal access and add the app (or a security group containing it) to the relevant tenant setting. Then add the app to every workspace whose reports you want analyzed. Without this the Analyzer authenticates fine and then sees an empty tenant.
Full walkthrough: Tenant connections.
Add the connection in the Admin Console
In the Launcher, click Open Admin Console and sign in with the admin password. On Tenant connections, add a connection with a name, tenant id, client id and client secret.
Generate the integration token
Go to Soterre API key and click Generate token.
It is shown once
The token is stored as a hash. Copy it into Soterre before you leave the page — regenerating is the only recovery, and it invalidates the old one.
Point Soterre at the PBI Analyzer
In Soterre, enter the PBI Analyzer's host and public port (4533 by default) and paste the integration token. Soterre calls GET /ping to confirm both.
See Connect Soterre.
Run the first analysis
From Soterre, pick a report and start an analysis. Soterre creates the job, polls it, and shows the flags and Health Score when it completes.
What you are looking at: How flags work and Health Score.
Then, if you want capacity data
Capacity collection is separate and optional. It needs the Microsoft Fabric Capacity Metrics app installed in the tenant and the Service Principal added to its workspace with Build permission on its semantic model — see Capacity Metrics app. Once configured, the Analyzer collects every night on its own and Soterre reads the accumulated history.
